Valencia vs Barcelona

Barcelona will attempt to defend a precarious 1-0 lead when they travel to the Mestalla Stadium on Thursday to face Valencia in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

A patient display from the Blaugrana in the first leg eventually saw Luis Suarez’s 67th-minute header separate the two sides, although Los Che will still hold hope of overturning the deficit.

However, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side play host to the La Liga leaders during their worst patch of form this season, having suffered defeat in their last five outings—including the Copa quarter-final second-leg loss at Alaves, where they qualified on penalties after extra time.

On the other hand, Ernesto Valverde’s men are unbeaten in five as they look to defend their Copa crown, although the 1-1 derby draw at Espanyol on Sunday may have dented their confidence entering Thursday’s showdown.

Read on for a preview of the Copa del Rey semi-final, where either Barcelona or Valencia will book their place in this season’s showpiece.

Despite Valencia’s drop in form, it’s worth mentioning their last three fixtures have come against some intimidating opposition—Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

A 4-1 loss at home to Los Blancos preceded back-to-back 1-0 defeats at the Camp Nou and the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, but ESPN FC’s Dermot Corrigan empathised with Los Che’s slump:

Coming back to the Mestalla trailing 1-0 is far from conclusive in terms of the aggregate scoreline, and former Valencia striker Adrian Ilie, who beat Barca en route to lifting the Copa del Rey in 1999, told the club’s official website that feat can be replicated almost 20 years on:

2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Live

2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

The 2018 Winter Olympics have arrived, and things will kick off with the extravagant opening ceremony, which features the lighting of the Olympic flame, the introductions of the countries participating through the flag parade, and a showcase of the culture and history of host nation South Korea.

While the opening ceremony may claim to be the “official” start of the games, the Olympics actually started on Thursday afternoon in Korea (Wednesday evening in the US) with mixed doubles curling and ski jumping. They will be continuing throughout Thursday and Friday with other events, including figure skating, before the ceremony actually starts.

Every four years, the many countries of the world send their best figure skaters, bobsledders, skiers, snowboarders, curlers, and other winter athletes to compete against the best of the best. This time around, the Winter Olympics are taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

And as always, there will be an opening ceremony featuring a massive spectacle and a parade of nations to officially kick off the games. Pyeongchang’s opening ceremony will be held Friday, February 9.

One of the big storylines heading into the opening ceremony is that the North Korean and South Korean delegations will march together under one flag in the parade of nations. There has long been tension between the two countries, so marching together is a symbolic gesture of unity. But this isn’t the first time the two countries have marched together.

“They have marched together nine times, including in Athens in 2004, carrying a blue-and-white flag representing a united Korea, and at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The two Koreas last marched together in the Asian Winter Games of 2007,” the New York Times reported.

Another thing to watch for is the return of Tongan athlete Pita Taufatofua, an Olympic taekwondo star-turned-Olympic cross-country-skier. He made news two years ago during the Summer Olympics in Rio for marching shirtless while serving as Tonga’s flag bearer in the parade of nations. However, Taufatofua has said he’ll be a little more covered up in Pyeongchang, considering the weather.

Song Seung-whan, a Korean actor-producer, is the creative director of the opening ceremony. Though details are scarce about what the show will entail, Reuters reports it will “intertwine Korean history and tradition with aspects of modern culture, such as K-Pop.”

For those planning to watch the festivities from the US, there’s a 14-hour time difference between South Korea and the East Coast, and an 11-hour difference between South Korea and the West Coast. If you’re hoping to witness the opening ceremonies live, you’ll have to get up at 6 am Eastern/3 am Pacific on Friday morning and log into NBC online or the NBC app, as NBC is the Olympics official broadcaster.

Later on Friday, the network will air a tape-delayed primetime broadcast of the opening ceremony at 8 pm Eastern, with commentary from hosts Katie Couric and Mike Tirico.

Eagles parade 2018

I often thought I might never live to see the day the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl. But guess what? They did it. They really did it, guys and gals.

It’s still hard to believe. But reality might sink in a little more today. Because today is the day we’ve dreamed of for our entire lives: an Eagles Super Bowl parade on Broad Street. It’s really happening.

Back when the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series in 2008, it was reported that two million people came out for their championship parade. That number will likely pale in comparison to today’s attendance. The Phillies had won a title before, albeit in 1980. The Eagles’ last title win was in 1960. And that wasn’t a Super Bowl. And above all else, Philadelphia is a football town.

So there’s going to be more than two million people in Philadelphia for today’s parade. I’ve seen estimates of four to six million thrown around.

It’s going to be fantastic to celebrate with everyone. The players deserve this special moment. Eagles fans deserve this moment. Today, we show everyone that we are not the city of losers that people make us out to be.

The Lombardi Trophy will be on full display to remind everyone that we are the champions of the world.

Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles and the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles are set to celebrate the franchise’s first championship since 1960 on Thursday when they hold a parade and rally in downtown Philadelphia following Sunday’s victory over the New England Patriots.

The Eagles and Patriots battled back and forth in one of the most entertaining Super Bowls in the game’s storied history until Foles hit Zach Ertz for the game-winning touchdown pass to put Philly ahead for good with just over two minutes left.

Now the team’s fans will hope Thursday’s events can at least come close to the same level of excitement.

The outlook is promising for Thursday’s celebration, albeit a little chilly. The Weather Channel projects a high temperature in the mid-30s, but the expectation is for bright and sunny skies with a zero percent chance of precipitation in the City of Brotherly Love.

Event Preview

Anybody planning to attend the parade Thursday better be ready to contend with a massive crowd.

CBS Philly reported an estimated crowd of three million is expected to engulf the streets of Philadelphia for a chance to party with the Super Bowl champions.

National Signing Day 2018 in United States of America

National Signing Day 2018

Among the biggest storylines we’re tracking are the commitments of 16 top-100 prospects, what kind of moves can be made by new coaching hires, and of course the race for the No. 1 class in the country. Alabama is the reigning king of the trail with seven-straight No. 1 classes, but 2018 looks to be a battle between Ohio State and Georgia. But don’t rule out the Tide just yet, as 247Sports national scouting director Barton Simmons noted. Alabama has “the most upward mobility … and the most proven track record to be able to do it.”

The remaining unsigned class of 2018 recruits will make their decisions during national signing day on Wednesday. Defensive back Patrick Surtain Jr. is the top unsigned recruit, while offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is the best offensive player remaining. Ohio State has the top recruiting class, but Georgia and Texas could eclipse the Buckeyes since Urban Meyer’s team isn’t expected to have a big day after December’s early signing period.

The final day of college football’s 2018 recruiting cycle is now underway. Though most recruits have already signed, thanks to the Early Signing Period, plenty of big names are still out there, and we have a pretty good idea of who’s going where.

Below is a commits schedule with national TV/streaming info, a news tracker, and the updated top of the rankings.

The biggest storyline is whether Georgia, Ohio State, or Zombie Alabama will have the No. 1 class. The Buckeyes enter Wednesday at No. 1. The top-rated recruit on the board entering NSD is Patrick Surtain Jr., one of many 2018ers with famous parents.

Otherwise, we’ll see some silly signing ceremonies, hear some new NSD tales of legend, lie to ourselves about how none of this matters (of course it matters), and accuse our rivals of flagrant cheating. Pretty normal Signing Day!

Most of the biggest commits will be on an ESPN network, all of which can be streamed online here, but here’s a list of blue-chips with known-ish announcement times (and a few top-100 players whose times I couldn’t track down). Eagles Super Bowl Parade 2018

A first is about to unfold in the city of Philadelphia: A Lombardi Trophy will make its way through the streets.

The Philadelphia Eagles completed the Hollywood-esque story in the 2018 Super Bowl, taking down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in epic fashion, 41-33.

Along the way, the Eagles got key performances from free-agent adds such as Alshon Jeffery, a game-altering play from first-round pick Derek Barnett and repeated aggressive and smart calls from head coach Doug Pederson, including two fourth-down plays sure to go down in football lore forever.

The intersection of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue is a short distance from Lincoln Financial Field, and the plan is to head north toward Downtown Philadelphia.

Considering it was the first Super Bowl in franchise history, you can expect Eagles fans to show up in a big way for the parade Thursday. The city is so excited it already cancelled school on Thursday.

How to watch the Eagles parade; full travel guide, road closures and other details for the Super Bowl celebration

According to the city of Philadelphia, NBC-10 and NBC Sports Philadelphia will air Thursday’s Eagles Super Bowl live and also stream it online for fans who can’t make it to town.

The news came as part of a large package of news that officials shared on Tuesday morning ahead of the event that is expected to draw well over two million people to celebrate the team’s 41-33 Super Bowl 52 victory over New England on Sunday.

Other details, all courtesy of the city:

When will it start and where?

“Parade: Kicks off at 11 a.m. at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, heading north toward the Art Museum. The parade will last approximately two hours.

Formal Celebration: Begins at 1 p.m. in front of the Art Museum. The program will last approximately two hours.”

What roads will be closed?

“Motorists should avoid the areas along and around the parade route, including Broad Street, Center City, and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Drivers should use alternate routes and allow for extra time when traveling in the area. Some bicycle lanes around the Parkway are also affected.

“There will be significant travel delays on Thursday. Additional road closures and lane restrictions may be necessary during the event to maintain public safety.”

Parking and transit details

“There will be parking restrictions along and around the parade route. These restrictions go into effect at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, and extend into the late evening on Thursday, February 8. Cars parked in temporary no parking zones will be relocated. A full list of the affected streets is available online.

“If at all possible, visitors should not drive into Center City. If, however, driving is necessary, the City encourages drivers to park in off-street lots and garages along the Parkway, Broad Street, or near the stadium complex. The Philadelphia Parking Authority also has a list of garages online. If visitors must drive, they should contact individual parking facilities for rates and availability ahead of time.

“There will be no enforcement of meter and time limit regulations on the day of the parade.  Safety violations such as parking too close to the corner, fire hydrants, blocking crosswalks, and double parking will be enforced.”

Watford vs Chelsea

Chelsea will try to bounce back from their shock defeat at the hands of Bournemouth when they face Watford in the Premier League on Monday.

The Blues have just one win in their last four outings in the league but still sit in the top four, two points ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur. After a productive January transfer window, fans hope the defending champions can halt the slide and start winning again.

Per, Olivier Giroud could make his debut on Monday, although his lack of starts for Arsenal in the last few months indicates he needs to build up his fitness before he can play the full 90 minutes.

Watford enter the clash with a lengthy list of absentees due to injury―Tommie Hoban, Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah, Heurelho Gomes, Younes Kaboul, Kiko Femina, Will Hughes, Miguel Britos and Molla Wague have all been ruled out, per WhoScored―and Didier Ndong is suspended.

Conte’s future has been a hot topic during Chelsea’s difficult spell, and with the conclusion of the January transfer deadline day came renewed questions about his commitment to the club.

The Italian made it clear he wants to continue with the Blues, per football writer Nizaar Kinsella:

The former Juventus boss was hugely popular during his first season in west London, when he guided the team to a title, but his star has faded quite a bit since then. Chelsea haven’t played the most inspiring football this season, with an over-reliance on Eden Hazard and a general lack of creativity leading to a number of dull contests.

Philadelphia, the No. 1 seed in the NFC, is in the midst of a Cinderella-type season. It has one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, and the defensive side of the ball can get after the quarterback. But quarterback Nick Foles will serve as the X-factor in this game. He’s done a great job of filling in for Carson Wentz, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury late in the season. However, he must prove that he can go toe-to-toe with Tom Brady.

The Patriots, the No. 1 seed in the AFC, will always have a potent offense with Brady at the helm. But the key to this game for New England is forcing turnovers. This defense only forced 18 turnovers in the regular season, good for 25th in the league. And it hasn’t created any turnovers in the postseason. The Eagles’ offense only coughed the ball up twice in the last two games, which is one of the big reasons why they are competing for the Super Bowl title.

Eagles vs. Patriots News
Philadelphia finds hope, hysteria, and salvation in an Eagles team that’s all its own
Every fan base has its wahoos and crazies. But every fan base isn’t Philly. Every crew doesn’t rumble into another stadium 3,000 miles away and make it an extra home game. They don’t travel to Chicago just to interrupt a baseball game for a few seconds of “Eagles” chants. That being said, everyone doesn’t drive dune buggies up landmarks. We are a flawed people. Say what you will about Philly, and people like Poff will lean into it.

Film Room: How the Eagles can attack the Patriots’ defense
In preparation for the game, I decided to go back through the Patriots’ 2017 season and study the games in which they gave up the most points or yards. What I found was not all that surprising. Despite Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s background on the defensive side of the ball, that unit struggled throughout the course of the season. According to Football Outsiders DVOA, the Patriots were 31st in the league on the defensive side of the ball — ranking 29th in yards per game and 31st in yards per play.

Revisiting the last Patriots vs. Eagles Super Bowl, 13 years later
A lot has changed with both teams since that memorable game on Feb. 6, 2005. In fact, there are only a handful of players still in the league, while the rest have moved on to do other things with their lives. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and explore the biggest names from this game, along with where they are today.

Dion Lewis’ college coach explains how he became the Patriots’ unlikely star
When Lewis was a college recruit, he had few scholarship offers. He was 5’6 or 5’7 and didn’t have stand-out speed. Pitt started recruiting him in the summer of 2008, when Wannstedt started to think LeSean McCoy might turn pro after two college seasons. Jeff Hafley, then a Pitt assistant and now the 49ers’ secondary coach, found Lewis at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J. Wannstedt said he watched eight plays of Lewis’ tape, invited his family to campus, and offered him a scholarship immediately.

At the late legend’s old home, Paisley Park, Timberlake hosted his own album-listening party.

If your jaw hasn’t dropped yet, go ahead and drop it now. Again, Timberlake incorporating Prince into his highly anticipated show shouldn’t be a shocker, especially after J.T. promised at his Minneapolis press conference that “we’re doing things with this halftime show that they’ve never quite done before.” The Midwest, after all, is Prince’s territory, and the flamboyant superstar might have been a lock for this year’s halftime spectacle after his Super Bowl XLI performance had he not passed away in 2016.

But this is a Prince hologram we’re talking about.

Assuming it’s anything like the Michael Jackson projection we got at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, that means a real, live (sort of), walking, singing and dancing version of the master behind “Purple Rain,” right next to J.T. under the brightest of concert lights.
